PODCAST #2 Our Director tweets in Le chant des oyseaux

Not Twitter tweeting, but renaissance madrigal birds tweets make up most of the lyrics in the song Le chant des oyseaux.

Our director, Pierre, gives us direction in a particularly tricky section of the song and you'll get a taste of the intricacies of working this renaissance madrigal by Clément Janequin (c.1485-c.1560).

We will be performing the song at our Spring concerts, and it is on our madrigal CD, Audite Nova.

We'd love to read your comments and opinions about our rehearsal process!

Had you ever heard this kind of music before? If not, tell us!

  1. Hi Hol & Pierre:: Very professional and easy to keep up with activities. And, I thought we were good back in 1995 - I think the choir has improved so beautifully thanks to a great teacher and Director. All the best, Bob Short, retired Bass.

  2. Hi Bob
Thanks for dropping by. I can't believe its been 4 years already since the 30th! Time flies!
Thanks for the compliment, but the choir still sounds the same to me as when you were there. Everyone tells me its getting better all the time, but we were a tight knit bunch when we were a smaller group and our sound reflected that :)

The Stairwell Carollers are an a cappella Ottawa choir, formed in 1977 by their director Pierre Massie, a music graduate of the University of Ottawa. The choral group has earned the distinction of being ranked amongst the best of Ottawa choirs by local choral critics. Their repertoire encompasses sacred and secular songs from the Renaissance period.
In the rush of the hectic Yuletide season, the Carollers bring focus to the true meaning of Christmas, with their beautiful and unique interpretations of traditional Christmas carols in many languages.
The release of their first CD Qui creavit celum, celebrated the Stairwell Carollers' 20th anniversary in 1997.
In 2000 they released I Saw a Swete Semly Syght and in 2003 Mourning Dove.  Their very first madrigal CD, Audite nova, was released in October of 2006.
Their newest Xmas CD Laudemus cum armonia is now available.

A non-profit organization, they assist in raising funds for local charities through concerts and CD sales.
