About Us

The Stairwell Carollers are a charitable a cappella Ottawa choir, who sing sacred and secular renaissance music, as well as settings of traditional and contemporary Christmas carols.

Winner of the 2010 OMFA provincial competition, they went on to place 2nd in all of Canada.

Director, Pierre Massie, has composed many original pieces for the choir, as well as creating lively and contemporary arrangements of traditional carols.

One of his original carols, “Mourning Dove”, caught the ear of our Dominion Carillonneur, Dr. Andrea McCrady, via YouTube. She performed “Mourning Dove” on the Peace Tower Carillon at 12:00 noon, and again at 3:00 pm, Monday Dec 17th. http://stairwellcarollers.blogspot.ca/2012/12/pierre-massie-composition-mourning-dove.html

To date, The Stairwell Carollers have raised over $47,000 for local Ottawa/Gatineau charities through the sale of concert tickets, CDs and cookbooks. They have also awarded $11,000 in Music Scholarships and helped countless non-profit groups raise funds though their CD consignment program.

The Stairwell Carollers are an a cappella Ottawa choir, formed in 1977 by their director Pierre Massie, a music graduate of the University of Ottawa. The choral group has earned the distinction of being ranked amongst the best of Ottawa choirs by local choral critics. Their repertoire encompasses sacred and secular songs from the Renaissance period.
In the rush of the hectic Yuletide season, the Carollers bring focus to the true meaning of Christmas, with their beautiful and unique interpretations of traditional Christmas carols in many languages.
The release of their first CD Qui creavit celum, celebrated the Stairwell Carollers' 20th anniversary in 1997.
In 2000 they released I Saw a Swete Semly Syght and in 2003 Mourning Dove.  Their very first madrigal CD, Audite nova, was released in October of 2006.
Their newest Xmas CD Laudemus cum armonia is now available.

A non-profit organization, they assist in raising funds for local charities through concerts and CD sales.
