Top Ten 2017 Stairwell Thankful Moments - 40th Anniversary

Number 1 - Wonderful friendships; here, Dr. Andrea McCrady, our Dominion Carillonneur poses with director Pierre and a fresh new Program Booklet designed by Terry Brynaert for our 40th Xmas concerts!

Number 2 - A beautiful CD cover design (also by Terry) for our Brand new 40th LIVE Christmas carol CD. Available HERE.

Number 3 - Doing what we do best -- fundraising for worthy causes. This money for Shepherds of good Hope was raised through a clever "Sponsor a Song" idea by David Rain (tenor).

Number 4 - Catching up with so many old friends and Stairwellers like Michel Benac and Joel Haslam. So many Stairwellers came by I can't list more names here for fear of leaving people out!

Number 5 - Fundraiser for OCISO - bonus - brilliant photos of us by Irena Zamchevska.

Number 8 - Hardworking singers that go the extra mile to make all the concerts about more than just the music. David just took over PR Head so I could focus on our social media, blog and Youtube. Josée heads the crew for reception food. Manon "puts out fires of all kinds" and liaises with our venue contacts. Maggie is one of our Latin experts, catalogues our practise tapes and monitors the website for errors. Susan handles advertising and has been Treasurer for years, and Andrea is our secretary.

And of course all of you I failed to mention here -- what a fantastic, committed group! A blog post outlining all of you and your specific tasks is in the works.

Number 9 - Our fans - we couldn't do it without you! Please continue helping us with your concert attendance, CD purchases and youtube subscriptions and views. And don't forget to audition!!

Presenting our NEW LIVE CD for Christmas 2017

This collection of carols started as a tiny gem of a thought.

For many years now, Tom Barnes has recorded our live concerts for us. His work is impeccable and after every season we would have this treat of  being able to hear our season at our leisure.

Pete uses these raw recordings to produce our YouTube videos.

End of story.
Or not.

Our 40th committee had an idea; why not take the Christmas concert recordings and see if our pro sound engineer, Jay Fee, could combine the best of them into a LIVE CD of Christmas Carols.

I had no idea it would sound SO BEAUTIFUL!

When the first edit came back to hear, I was in tears. New versions of favourite Xmas songs we sang in concert, NOT ON ANY OF OUR OTHER CDS, are now preserved and presented in the highest quality on a professionally produced CD.

Includes the Newly composed Rideau Carol in a recording debut for composer and tenor, David Rain!

The quality is right up there with our other Christmas CDs and we are very proud that we can present Adeste Fideles LIVE to our audience for purchase!

Katrina's song

Wow 40 years! Where did the time go?

I've always been one of the oldest members of the Stairwell Carollers - if not the OLDEST - at our choir's 20th anniversary in 1997 I was 41, but still didn't look a day over 30. Pierre had HAIR - and I shampooed out my grey at home in 20 minutes.

This was our 4th appearance on CTV's Regional Contact with Joel Haslam as host.

Joel actually joined our group soon after our first appearance on his show back in 1993. He sang with our choir for 3 years but never did a Regional segment with us during that time, concerned about how it may look.

This was also the CD launch for Qui creavit celum, and a final song for Katrina. One of our finest sopranos, Katrina lost her battle with breast cancer soon after recording her tracks for our CD. We dedicated Qui creavit celum to her memory and net proceeds enabled us to give a donation to the Breast Cancer society.

We all grieved the loss of a dear friend and an angelic voice.

Joel used clips from our previous appearances on Regional to do a beautiful tribute to her in this episode.
